Q. WHy should I hire an intuitive Eating coach? Can’t I just read the book on my own?
The Intuitive Eating book and Intuitive Eating Workbook (both by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch) are amazing resources, and you can certainly read them on your own and begin working on shifting your mindset around food and your body. However, working with a certified Intuitive Eating counsellor can be an invaluable resource to help guide you through the process of leaving the diet mentality in the past and learning to trust your body. With this extra support, you can move through the process faster, and have a trusted source to answer questions and clear up misconceptions. For many people who come to Intuitive Eating with a long history of dieting and disordered eating, it can be easy to turn the principles of Intuitive Eating into just another diet, with rules, guilt, and restriction, when that’s not at all what it’s meant to be about. A certified coach can help you avoid this trap. A coach can also work with you to determine which struggles require the most focus, and help you to find solutions that will work in your life, and give you the support to make lasting change. When I was working through healing my own relationship with food and my body I hired a professional coach to guide me through the process, and I’m not sure that I could have come as far as I have without the support of a coach.
Q. Will I lose weight with intuitive eating?
That’s not something I can promise you, nor do I want to promise you weight loss. If you’re here, reading this, I’m going to bet that you’ve spent enough time, effort, and money on programs, coaches, trainers, or diets that promised lasting weight loss, and then didn’t deliver. That’s not your fault - that’s just the nature of dieting and intentional weight loss. It doesn’t matter how badly we want to lose weight, or how valid our reasons for wanting to lose it, intentional weight loss is just not sustainable for the vast majority of people. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t still improve your health, improve your relationship with food, and improve your relationship with your body, without focusing on weight at all. What I can tell you is that learning to listen to your body and eat intuitively can affect your weight in one of three ways: 1) you may gain weight, 2) you may lose weight, or 3) your weight may not change much at all. I can’t predict where your weight will end up, only that it will settle at a place that is right for your body, when you stop restricting and learn to nourish your body properly.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
If cancelling after 1 session, $395 will be refunded. If payment plan was used, $165 will be refunded, and second payment will not be charged.
If cancelling after 2 sessions, $295 will be refunded. If payment plan was used, $65 will be refunded, and second payment will not be charged.
If cancelling after 3 or more sessions, no refund will be provided.
Q. Can I work with you if I have an eating disorder?
I cannot work with individuals who have an active eating disorder and recommend that you consult with a qualified eating disorder professional.
Q. Will these 6 sessions during the 3 months that we work together be enough?
Everyone is different, with a varied history of food and body image struggles, and recovery happens at a different pace for everyone. For some, this 3 month period may be enough to gain the tools they need to continue healing these relationships on their own. For others, it will be a great start, but further coaching may be necessary to get to a place of peace with food and their body. If, at the end of the 3 months you feel like you’d like to continue to work together, we can come up with a plan for further sessions.
